We have kittens

It's official. Having fiercely debated names, we have decided to compromise and have one each. We are now the proud and somewhat mad owners of two small ginger kittens, Orlando and Dante. One for each of us and both welcome additions to our family. My older cats, also litter mates, have their noses firmly out of joint, but I hope all will be well in time.

Now I just have to resist doggy delights. Wish me luck.

  1. Yes, how great! Mind you when we had four cats there were spats - took about two years for them to learn to ignore each other nicely.

  2. I can wish you luck Marianne but I don't understand! Am I the only person on the planet that can resist the 'charms' of puppies, kittens, cats and dogs? In the words of Son, I just don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I wish little animals no ill but I have no desire to share house room with them.

  3. Ah, Orlando. Memories of Kathleen Hale's wonderful creation. And Dante is a noble name too. I wish you luck...

  4. Gosh, your highbrow names put my 'pumpkin' suggestion to shame! Well done on getting the kitts, oh and go on, get some puppies too! If you do, then perhaps that will assuage my desire for a small furry thing to cuddle and walk up hills and down dales (or something like that)

  5. Two ginger kittens! How nice, and lovely names - very distinctive. I love the tiny stage with kittens when they're just mewling bags of fur!

  6. Orlando and Dante - what fun! All you need now is a Beatrice.....

  7. Ah, but I have a Beatrice in my life don't I, Bea?

Well yes they are absolutely adorable at the moment, Merry, but we have just had the first breakage as play gets a little too boisterous ...

Not at all PITK. One of my suggestions was Pumpkin too. I think you should get the dog though. It goes nicely with the four children.

Dick, yes, I am thinking of tracking down some of Kathleen Hale's books. See how they have stood the test of time.

Isobel, it has to be new handbags for you then. I have a strong mothering instinct which is somewhat appeased by small animals. You are lucky you can resist.

The jury is out Elizabeth, on when and how the two teams of cats will come to accept each other.

  8. Slightly classier names than my tabby sisters!
I may ( but not sure) have met Kathleen Hale years and years ago..
IF she lived on the Wirral in Cheshire, then I think I did. Sorry to sound SO confused but I was very young...

  9. Love the names, but take it that you're not too worried about your bird population with four cats about the place!

  11. Now why didn't I think of that?

  12. Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, Italy's greatest poet... I like a cat with literary aspirations. May the bard be with them, and you.

  13. ooooh - I'm so jealous. Living in a pet free zone - first time since I was 4.

A dog too will make it a perfect home for you.

    Look 4ward to hearing more.

  14. Congratulations on the kittens. We have a new kitten as well her name is Marmite and she is now 17 weeks old. Thankfully she gets on very well with our Collie. Marmite has told him whose boss on the boat hahaha.

  15. What a pretty name, Marmite. Wish I had thought of that.

I have just been visited by a madly purring Dante - he is the more sociable of the two and is helping me to type. Kittens are great fun and well worth the hassle.

Maybe you should fill the gap Lady Thinker? A dog and perhaps a man would certainly make a perfect home, but maybe I'm on my way there now.

Livvy thank you. Even the cats in our house have literary aspirations.
